Dr. Atkins graduated from the University of Maryland in 2004 where she worked with the Physics Education Research Group studying analogies in scientific discourse. Prior to coming to Chico State, she worked in informal science education at Dartmouth College and in research-based curriculum development and teacher professional development at LessonLab Research Institute. Her current interests lie in understanding of what it means to "think like a physicist" and creating classrooms and labs that promote this kind of thinking, particularly for the preparation and professional development of K-12 teachers. Her favorite hobbies include hiking, backpacking, yoga, and baking.
