Chapter Earns Undergraduate Research Award for 2008
Tiara Norris, Nic Sanabria, and Justin Dhooghe have won an Undergraduate Research Award from the National Society of Physics Students. They will build a sensitive variable-speed coaxial-cylinder viscometer to characterize the transition between liquid and solid behavior of dilatant non-Newtonian fluids. Read more about it at the National SPS Website.

Chapter Awarded 2007 Blake Lilly Prize
The California State University, Chico, chapter of SPS has consistently made physics outreach a priority. Our three primary outreach activities are the annual Pumpkin Drop, judging the community Science Fair, and volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of Chico. These are primarily directed at the K-12 students in or around the Chico community. We feel that it is never too early to help children gain a sense of wonder for the world around us and to dispel the notion that science is 'uncool.' For this work we have been awarded the 2006-07 Blake Lilly Prize their photo and read more about it at the National SPS Website.

2007 Marsh White Award to Chico SPS
"Absolute Zero at the Boys & Girls Club" is the title of the award winning proposal by Nic Sanabria and Brendan Diamond. The goal is to "begin collaboration with the local Boys & Girls Club to present monthly physics lectures and demonstrations, targeted specifically to interest K-12 students." The award includes includes funds for the project and a set of the Feynman Lecture Series. The certificate will be on display in the hall outside PS 110. See their photo and more info will be posted soon at the National SPS Website.

Chapter Awarded 2006 Blake Lilly Prize
Our chapter's outreach programs such as the Pumpkin Drop and judging the Chico Science Fair were "very impressive to the Blake Lilly Prize Committee." See their photo and read more about it at the National SPS Website.
